Alabama opens as four-point favorite over Georgia in CFP championship game

Alabama opened as a four-point favorite over Georgia for next week’s College Football Playoff championship game.

The Crimson Tide reached their third straight title game with a 24-6 win over Clemson in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and will be looking for their fifth national championship in the past nine seasons when they face SEC foe Georgia on Jan. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Trae Waynes Limited Jersey Alabama has been favored in 110 of its previous 111 games. The last time the Crimson Tide were an underdog was at Georgia on Oct. 3, 2015, the teams’ last meeting. The Bulldogs closed as a consensus one-point favorite over Alabama in that game. The Crimson Tide won 38-10.

Evan Gattis Limited Jersey The Westgate opened the over/under for the Georgia-Alabama game at 48.

So many Georgia fans were looking for title game tickets in the moments after the Bulldogs’ 54-48 Rose Bowl win over Oklahoma that StubHub’s page listing tickets to the Jan. 8 championship crashed for more than 30 minutes on Monday night.

The high sale on StubHub was $104,457, which is what someone paid for 10 seats, including all fees, on the 50-yard line on the Alabama side.

The title game’s location in Atlanta, just 72 miles from Georgia’s campus, is one of the big draws. The Bulldogs are trying to win their first championship in 37 years.

For Crimson Tide fans, going to the title game has turned into a regular occurrence. The team is playing in its sixth title game in nine seasons, looking for its fifth title in that span. A 200-mile drive from Tuscaloosa to Atlanta also makes it an easy trip.
