Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s daring Patriots comments just might work

Let’s also understand we’re talking about a coach with great job security — you’re not going to hear Giants coach Ben McAdoo uttering such blasphemous statements. Tomlin has a .655 regular-season winning percentage in his 11 seasons at the helm. He has led the Steelers to a soon-to-be eight playoff appearances and two Super Bowls, including a victory over Arizona in Super Bowl XLIII. The Rooneys have employed just three head coaches over the last 48 years: Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Tomlin. He’s not going anywhere else anytime soon.

Knowing they needed an onside kick recovery regardless, the Patriots took a field goal rather than a fourth-and-goal play from the Dolphins’ 15-yard line. (New England failed to recover the onside kick a couple minutes later.) 27-20, Dolphins

The Ducks defenseman is spreading awareness in honor of friend Rick Rypien. He also dishes on his team’s chances, advanced stats, the Golden Knights, dressing up like a security guard to fool his teammates — and yes, the Superman Punches.

Havelock plays for Morristown Surge of the AIHL, which is a pro roller hockey league. He has captained the team since it started and is consistently one of the best players on the squad.

There were 20 penalties for 239 yards and, while some of those penalties were justified, several were questionable calls that even ESPN’s broadcast team of Sean McDonough and Jon Gruden called out. The Bengals remained an undisciplined group, flagged 13 times for 173 yards. eagles_036_7d21b9ec06d6b23f-180x180

Giants won’t fire coach Ben McAdoo during the season, report says

Rumors have been swirling that the Giants are extremely unhappy with coach Ben McAdoo as struggles continue to mount this season.

“I don’t take things personal in this business,” McAdoo said. “First thing is first, I have an open-door policy. Any player that has anything to say is welcome to come in the front door and talk. I had a couple conversations over the last couple weeks, and I welcome those conversations.

“The next thing is pretty simple. It’s hard to help a player when they don’t put their name on the quote. If they need some help, come see me. I’m the guy that can help.”

With the exception of big games in Dallas, Philadelphia and Seattle, the Week 9 NFL scoreboard was packed with key divisional tilts around the league. Buccaneers vs. Saints, Falcons vs. Panthers, Colts vs. Texans, Cardinals vs. 49ers and, on Monday night, Lions vs. Packers would make division races more clear by the end of the week.

As for that big game in Dallas, the Cowboys, still able to use running back Ezekiel Elliott, handled the powerful Chiefs. In Philadelphia, the Eagles, the best team in the NFL record-wise, destroyed a Broncos team still searching for its offensive identity.

The night cap Sunday was a game in Miami, where the struggling Raiders were able to hold off the reeling Dolphins and keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
